Hansen & Horn. It's a name that has been associated with quality and innovation in residential construction throughout Indiana since 1977, when Ward Horn and Ken Hansen decided to build comfortable, affordable homes with architectural distinction — homes that fit the way people live.

A New Kind of Homebuilder
Both Ward Horn and Ken Hansen grew up around construction, with fathers who were construction contractors. Ward's father was a commercial interior trim contractor, and Ward worked for him for years. From there, Ward worked in retail merchandising with Federated Department Stores, where he grew to have a deeper understanding of customer service, color, presentation and attention to detail.

In 1977, Ward Horn and Ken Hansen put their talents together and decided to build homes that were head and shoulders above the ordinary. Ward remembers, "Much of the housing at that time was very similar in design. We worked with nationally known architects who were skilled in residential construction to combine style and design to bring to the Indianapolis marketplace homes with character as well as a high level of livability. We introduced many features to our homes that no one else in the Indianapolis marketplace was using, and that set us apart from the beginning."

After being in business together 22 years, Ward Horn bought out Ken Hansen in 2001 and is now the sole owner of Hansen & Horn. Ken Hansen continues to be active in the custom home market.

Over the years, Hansen and Horn has been honored with several awards, including:

Best in American Living Award — presented in conjunction with Better Homes & Gardens and Professional Builder magazines.
Best Building Company in America Award — presented by Professional Builder for computerization and technology.
The Smaller Smarter Award — a national award for condominium units presented by Professional Builder magazine.
Mame Award Winner — awarded Best Design Center, Best Model Homes, and Best Floor Plans.

Hansen & Horn homes have been featured in numerous publications, including Better Homes & Gardens, Professional Builder, and Builder magazines. They have been recognized as one of the top 400 builders in America, also by Professional Builder magazine. Ward Horn continues, "These awards only mean something to us because they reflect our commitment to putting the customer first. We want to build homes, not houses. And we understand the difference."
